AN
ORDINANCE
to provide for the establishment
of the
Preamble.– Whereas it is expedient
to establish the

(Amendment) Order No.9 of 1999, as amended by the Chief Executive Order No.11
of 2000, the Governor of a Province may issue and promulgate an Ordinance;
Now, therefore, in exercise of the aforesaid powers and all
other powers enabling him in that behalf, the Governor of the Punjab is pleased
to make and promulgate the following Ordinance:-
1. Short title and commencement.– (1) This Ordinance may
be called the

2. Definitions.– In this Ordinance, unless the
subject or context otherwise requires, the following expressions shall have the
meanings hereby respectively assigned to them, that is to say –
(i) “Academic Council” means the Academic Council
of the University;
(ii) “affiliated college” means an
educational institution affiliated to the University but not maintained or
administered by it;
(iii) “Academic Department” means a teaching,
research and technological development Department maintained and administered
by the University;
(iv) “Authority” means any of the Authorities
of the University specified in the Ordinance;
(v) “Chairperson”
means head of an Academic Department;
(vi) “Chancellor”
means the Chancellor of the University;
(vii) “Collector” means the Collector appointed by the Government
under section 8 of the Punjab Land Revenue Act, 1967 (XVII of 1967;
(viii) “College”
means a
(ix) “Dean”
means the Chairperson of the Board of Faculty;
(x) “Director”
means the Director of an Institute;
(xi) “Faculty”
means a faculty of the University;
(xii) “Government”
means the Government of the

means a teaching unit of the University;
(xiv) “officer” means an officer of the University specified in the
Ordinance;
(xv) “prescribed” means prescribed by Statutes,
Regulations or Rules;
(xvi) “Principal” means the head of a college;

Pro-Chancellor of the University;]
(xvii) “Professor Emeritus”
means a retired Professor working in an honorary capacity;
(xviii) “Statutes”, “Regulations” and “Rules” mean
respectively the Statutes, the Regulations and the Rules made or deemed to have
been made under this Ordinance;
(xix) “Syndicate”
means the Syndicate of the University;
(xx) “teachers” mean Professors, Associate
Professors, Assistant Professors, Lecturers and Research staff having
prescribed qualifications engaged whole time by the University for teaching
certificate, diploma, degree or postgraduate classes and engaged in research
and development of technologies and such other persons as may be declared as
teachers by Regulations;
(xxi) “Teaching Unit” means a constituent or affiliated college,
institute, department or such other unit where instruction for research is
being undertaken;
